THE BRITISH COUNCIL. SPRING GARDENS, WESTMINSTER
(b. Mexico City, 1960). The urban setting is the focus of her concern; she believes that all city spaces shape the spirit of their citizens; hence her concern for creating awareness of the awful contamination to which we are subjected, whether though sight, sound or smell.
Paloma Torres’s work strips away all forms of visual saturation and excess to achieve a minimal constructive expression and thereby make an impact on her reconfiguration of the space.
The sculpture to be displayed in London, “Building in the rain”, joins an everyday urban object such as a bench to an element of nature such as a cloud, thus creating a piece that is both utilitarian and playful. The piece is designed to show the intimate relationship between the city and nature.
“The core of an artwork is its process”.
